im not sure how i feel about the US not qualifying. i enjoy faintly rooting for american teams in sports i've never had anything to do with but in the olympics, at least the US has a shot at winning at almost everything. i can't imagine the US ever winning a world cup. at any rate, best of luck to the poor sap who takes it over next.

I find it really disappointing to be honest, for a couple of reasons. The most obvious one is the way they went out. Losing to Trinidad and Tobago is an embarrassment for any team. It was a shock for England to lose against Iceland last year, but at least they have a half decent team now, whereas Trinidad and Tobago might even struggle to break into professional football in most European club leagues.

The other is that the US is not a bad team, and it seems as though football is becoming more popular over there year after year. A combination of the women's team doing really well and well known players from other countries going over there to retire/coach is probably the main reason. Not qualifying will have a big effect because it reduces exposure. I don't think the US will have a realistic chance of winning it for a long time, and I'm not sure England does at the moment either, but I would be pissed off if we didn't qualify.
