Gavin Morgan, a psychologist on the team, said: “Clearly, using fear as a means of control is not ethical. Using fear smacks of totalitarianism. It’s not an ethical stance for any modern government. By nature I am an optimistic person, but all this has given me a more pessimistic view of people.”

When fear is the only thing that will work, use it. Nothing else would have convinced the average blockhead to mask up and stand away from everyone else.

And yes, smarty pants, I was tied up. Quite well, too.

It's a cycle. It goes like this.

Leaders lie/are corrupt -> people grow skeptical of the leaders -> Some leader wants to do good but doesn't think the public can be trusted to listen so lies -> people grow even more jaded -> etc

This is exactly what happened with covid and masks by the way. Faucci and the WHO eroded yet more of the limited trusted we have in institutions. They have themselves to blame.
