This is a ridiculous analogy. Letting adults have the most say over their own lives is completely different than raising a child.

we would elect people making honest attempts to do good

Again, the problem is no one agrees on who is 'doing good'.

That's not the same as electing people who are obviously corrupt

Most of the time that is all that is running! lol

Come on with the rape stuff. I didn't say I was an anarchist. I want very limited government. "That government is best which governs least."

Society needs protection just as small children do, it's not a ridiculous analogy.

That government is best which governs least.

The government that governs least is a government that does nothing, equal to no government. You should not regurgitate empty propaganda like this. A good government needs to do almost all the things current governments do, maybe more, it just needs to do them competently and efficiently or not be corrupt.

Democracy is often touted as the least worst solution to deciding who is doing good, and avoiding corrupt people in power. Unfortunately it is failing miserably.

Unfortunately it is failing miserably.

Because it is trying to do too much. It is too big and failing at the basics. It has lost sight of its mission.

This is why we should all be for more states rights and less federal government. You would be free to move to a state which has all the programs you want. That state would have more money to implement them because it wouldn't be shipping as much money off to Washington.

Yes, the implementation of the tragedy of the commons on a state level. Each could be purely motivated by selfishness, prioritizing short-term gain and externalizing as many costs as possible. So much for securing a healthy environment for future generations. Meanwhile each state retains the corrupted framework of the democratic process and the powerful corporations who control democracy will be better able to pick them off in isolation.

Democracy isn't failing because it's trying to do too much, it's falling because it's been corrupted from the inside out, because technology has given ridiculous power to the already powerful and people are too stupid or cowardly to help themselves.

It's nice to think that a simple thing like state's rights would help this, but I think it would only make it worse.

I personally like the idea of building from the ground up. Places like Orania, but perhaps organized around less racist principles. Not that they're going to stop society from killing itself, but they might be better able to weather the storm.
