It was an absurdly wet winter/spring in SoCal this year. I've never seen the desert so beautiful. Flowers. Fucking. Everywhere. Crazy soft, vibrant, bushy plants growing 7 feet high where I had never ever seen anything but 3 inches of dry brush and sand. The rain stopped about a month ago, and almost all of that vegetation is dying or dead, and drying. Even though it's been unusually cool and wet, I fear it's going to be a burny burny late summer. All of that plant life will be fresh tinder, so once the Santa Anas kick in around August/September, I think fire season may be devastating to areas that have never had fires around here. The state government is so "environmentally friendly" that they have hefty regulations against clearing the brush in almost all cases which makes matters even worse
