I had a dog that looked like a cat.
He was about the size of a large cat, had a cat-like tail and ears. Whiskers, claws, and all the other traits of a cat.
But I'm sure he was a dog.

I was a kid, and he would follow me around when I played outside. He would play fetch, and was well trained. One thing that seemed to impress people was that he would only enter the TV room. He wasn't allowed in the rest of the house. He could go outside whenever he wanted, but indoors he wasn't allowed in the other rooms. So he never even tried to enter them. There were no doors to keep him in, just obedience.
That's how I knew that he was really a dog.

Then we got a cat. Since this one was a real cat, it was impossible to train it to stay in the TV room or outside.
Then Cat-Dog stepped in. He would camp out at the edge of the room and tackle the cat any time it tried to go somewhere it shouldn't. When the cat was able to make a run for it, Cat-Dog would go into the forbidden area, grab the cat by the scruff, and drag it back into the TV room.
