The governing Liberals triggered deep cuts in the health and education sectors early in their mandate.

This is why these areas should never be part of the government. Private individuals should be looking after these needs on their own, without government involvement. Why do people tolerate sending their money to someone else and then assume that third party is going to act in their best interests? Milton Friedman makes a great statement about this.

Third parties such as unions are forbidden from spending money to influence an election or from openly stumping on behalf of candidates during the official campaign period.

I can understand why a law such as this is present. Keeping the effect of special interests out of politics is a noble idea, but ultimately this is a limit on freedom of speech.
