What a way to poison cryptocurrency's reputation.

I suspect that was the true intent.
There are easier ways to store illegal content. Encrypt it and they could have google hold onto it.

It is an inevitability of blockchain technology as a whole. It is a very attractive place to store illegal content, because it is distributed across many different computers all over the world and either nobody is liable for hosting it, or everyone is.
