i was watching a review of the brewers' series against the pirates this weekend and i don't think i've ever seen anyone stand there and watch a home run fly and flip their bat quite so hard as braun did and really it looked like the brewers were completely disrespecting the pirates all weekend. i dunno what bad blood i missed but i was amazed that the pirates just sat there and took it.

My oldest has really gotten into baseball this year and it's getting difficult to teach him sportsmanship when we watch a game and see stuff like that. I understand a bat flip done as a spur of the moment excited celebration, but some of these players are crossing the line into disrespect of the other team. When I was a kid a player could expect some chin music the next time up or be hbp if the opponent's manager felt it necessary. Now MLB is so strict about pitchers intentionally hitting batters that the batters don't worry about retaliation for their antics.

I think the pitcher last night got Donaldson worked up by not responding to Donaldson asking if it was intentional or accidental. The video I first saw clearly showed Donaldson asking "what was that," as he walked towards first.

hadn't thought of that, yeah, it really sets a bad example.

It was actually a lame bench clearing. Donaldson starts chirping at the pitcher and the pitcher chirps back then throws down his hat and glove. No punches get thrown but Donaldson did get a good shove of Diaz. I've been impressed with Donaldson so far as a Brave, seems to bring some extra energy to the clubhouse for the younger guys to feed off and he seems to be playing hard.
