In the late 70s, I was an under-aged barfly guy. Pretty much every bar downtown had nickel draft on the weekends. Never saw any riots, but, as a sixteen year old, I sure screwed some college chicks. It was great.

I remember there being a dive bar in Memphis that charged a $5 or $10 cover charge then had "any coin" draft beer (back around 2000). People would take in rolls of pennies.

This was the late 70s to very early 80s. No cover, nickel draft, 12 oz plastic cups. If you didn't get puking drunk first, you could walk out into daylight with a cup in your hand the next morning when they ran you off so they could clean up and close down.

edit: nowadays, every bar has to close by 2am in this state. The 70s were awesome.
