My opinions on my team in parenthesis
Andrew Miller, LHP — eligible for a qualifying offer (Nope)
Michael Brantley, OF — eligible for a qualifying offer (Nope)
Cody Allen, RHP — eligible for a qualifying offer (Nope)
Lonnie Chisenhall, OF — eligible for a qualifying offer (Nope)
Carlos Carrasco, P — $9.75 million team option picked up (No brainer, good move)
Brandon Guyer, OF — $3 million team option declined, $250,00 buyout (Sorry Guyer, I love ya, but you're not worth 3 million, we have too many mediocre outfields already)
I think the 2016 playoffs may have broken Miller, he's just not the same guy. I'd definitely like to have Brantley back, but he isn't worth 17.9 million. I wish Chisenhall the best, but he can't stay healthy, I don't know if he's worth the roster spot. Of course I didn't believe Brantley could stay healthy either, but he proved me wrong this year.
It seems set up so that the offer is too low and players are better off with a long term contract offer, or too high for the teams. It only makes sense to offer if you know the player will decline, and then you get the draft pick.
Hopefully the Braves work something out with Markakis. He may not be splashy power hitter but he seems to be a better than average fielder and is a pretty consistent hitter. He's also respected and pretty well liked in the locker room from what I've read.
