Baseball didn't care because it was great for ratings. It was an exciting time for sure, but it's also shameful.

Toss up for me.

What was "shameful" was how the 1994 season ended.

We missed out on the Expos possible one and only real shot at a title.

We missed out on Tony Gwynn make a run for .400. (If you remember 1980 when Brett went for it, it was akin to the Sosa-McGwire chase).

Bagwell was sitting at 39 HRs and 117 RBIs with 50 games to play. (Oh yeah, and batting .368 to boot!)

Maddux was 16-6 with 10 starts to go, and a 1.56 ERA.

The Big Hurt had almost a .500 OBP (.487). Oh yeah, and 38 HRs, too.

Matt Williams and Griffey Jr had 40+ HR's with 50 games to go.

Pennant races in almost every division.

Losing that year was shameful, and very, very sad. Only thing more shameful were the fans on Opening day 1995.

It's said that is one of the reasons the doping was overlooked. Baseball needed the good press and excitement to bring people back to the game after the 94 / 95 season issues.
