So there are three free speech alternatives to Reddit.

Voat, which is dying and full of psychopaths.

Phuks, which I just found.

And Poal which is young and hot and rising.

How long has Phuks been around? Is it better than Poal? Did Poal steal their UI from this site? Which should I use?

A bit of history about Phuks would be greatly appreciated. The site has been around since 2016, but why haven't I heard of it?

First of all, welcome to Phuks :)

How long has Phuks been around?

Phuks has been running since december 2016

We developed and maintain throat, which is the software that both Phuks and Poal run on. The Poal guys forked throat last year to create their own free speech platform (since per the TOS here, "hate speech" is not allowed. that restriction was placed by our hosting provicer and was meant to be temporary while we looked for a new one, but in the end we never moved)

Which one you should use is up to you, this site isn't that well known because we never worried about advertising it, I personally prefer to focus on improving the platform

Most of us started on Voat and decided to move because that site became too much of an echo chamber, the Voat code wasn't the most resource efficient and Reddit's was pretty outdated so we decided to make our own. We started coding it in May 2016 and Phuks went live on December. In the middle we had various test instances and we used the shitposting.space domain while we decided on a name.

After the initial influx of users we never had any fast growth, except for some times when Voat went offline. Nowadays the Voat influxes go towards Poal so this site is pretty quiet.

Anyway that's most of what I can recall right now, if you have any questions about the site just ask away!
