One of the freakiest natural events I've been involved in was the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2016_Kaikoura_earthquake. It was a long rolling earthquake that went on for a while at midnight.

I'm not even on the same island that it happened on. I was hundreds of kilometres away from the epicentre, but it still had an amazing strength to it.

Of course it had to happen at the time I was watching porn.

Not sure they're very freaky but I fell asleep on a fishing boat at sea during some strong thunderstorms (think we were near the Bermuda Triangle too) and have seen the skies turn some freaky colors during tornado/waterspout outbreaks. I also remember Chattanooga being shaken by a mild earthquake one morning then a few days later a fighter jet test pilot creating a sonic boom near the city and the news had to tell everyone it wasn't another earthquake. Only other would be my dad and I driving from Destin to Atlanta during the Blizzard of '93. None of those really count as freaky natural events to me but they're pretty much the only ones that have stuck in my memory.
