One of the freakiest natural events I've been involved in was the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2016_Kaikoura_earthquake. It was a long rolling earthquake that went on for a while at midnight.

I'm not even on the same island that it happened on. I was hundreds of kilometres away from the epicentre, but it still had an amazing strength to it.

Of course it had to happen at the time I was watching porn.

High seas while out on the sailboat. I don't know if that's freaky, but the power of water is amazing and can get scary.

The eruption of Mt. St. Helens in 1980.

I lived about 200 miles to the east, and we sat out on the deck watching ash clouds roll in. Little did we know how much of it was going to fall. Some towns north of us had to use front loaders to clear the streets.

What part of Washington were you in?

My parents experienced the eruption from the Yakima/Sealah area and recieved like 5 inches of ash on everything.

I was in the Tri-Cities. We just got a dusting.

All about the air currents that day.

Fun fact, I just drove over the toutle river bridge that got wiped out by the lahar that followed the eruption.

We had a tornado go over our house before it touched the ground. It came on suddenly and took out 4 large trees in our yard. Seeing the crazy high wind thrashing at everything was pretty freaky as I ran to hide in the basement

A rainstorm that was literally like God tipped a bucket down on the highway we were on. There were no drops of rain hitting the windscreen, just solid water for about two minutes. 10 minutes later it was blue skies.

Not sure they're very freaky but I fell asleep on a fishing boat at sea during some strong thunderstorms (think we were near the Bermuda Triangle too) and have seen the skies turn some freaky colors during tornado/waterspout outbreaks. I also remember Chattanooga being shaken by a mild earthquake one morning then a few days later a fighter jet test pilot creating a sonic boom near the city and the news had to tell everyone it wasn't another earthquake. Only other would be my dad and I driving from Destin to Atlanta during the Blizzard of '93. None of those really count as freaky natural events to me but they're pretty much the only ones that have stuck in my memory.
