It's pretty much the trend to hate on newer kinds of music when you're older.

I'm a young fellow. I don't listen to all new songs out there. But I don't mind some of it. A lot of swearing appears to be casual in pop now, I find it a bit awkward to listen to. I've never been able to get into rap for the same reasons. Swearing in music sticks out like a sore thumb for me and kind of ruins it.

How do you feel about today's music? Are you an old timer who wants to listen to a symphony orchestra on your gramophone or do you want to blast out today's music on your iPod?

I think today's pop is over-produced, over-hyped crap. Of course, I've thought that about pop music since the seventies. I like mostly blues but now the latest is getting that "wall of sound" thing going on. Give me simple music, where the individuals can shine.

I think the problem with todays pop is that it's not produced by musicians but studios. They hire someone good looking and hope autotune and a big marketing budget do the music.

I've never been into rap, but I'm fine with swearing in general.

Most old music was shit too but it died away so you don't hear it anymore, only the good stuff lasts..

The good songs are always rare no matter when you were born. It's just human nature to forget the bad ones, so as people get older they compare the classics of their time with the rubbish of today.

As far as swearing in music is concerned, well, it seems to me it's the same as in conversation; that is, if it fits in in a natural, unforced manner, then it's no problem. If it's done way too much and/or done obviously just for shock value, then it's grating to the ear for anyone with good taste. As for so-called rap "music", it is not music at all in my opinion, it is offensive and sometimes simply disgusting. As for pop music in general these days, well, it seems to be a lot more style than substance. I prefer blues and 80's music for the most part.

I know people always say this, but modern punk rock music is dead. Sure, there are a few underground bands still making good stuff, but all of the more mainstream music is absolutely atrocious. It really isn't punk rock anymore.

I just tend to disagree with you on that. In my opinion, a lot of the stuff sounds like either over polished garbage, or it's so stuck following some formulaic punk rock code. Their are a few good bands around, but the vast majority is crap in my eyes. But that's just my shitty punk rock opinion.
