I started playing when i was about 10 or so at an after school daycare. I enjoyed the game and mechanics and got decent at it. Eventually ended up borrowing a deck from a neighbor.

Unfortunately my mom was of the opinion that magic delved into the occult and led to witchcraft so she tore up the entire deck.

Never played much after that until I was about 22. When some friends got me back into over drinks. Played a lot for about a year and accumulated several decks. Until I moved away. Since then I've played a little bit with room mates but haven't touched them in 6-8 months now.

A few of the teachers at the Catholic school I attended thought the black cards were evil and banned them from their class rooms. But most were reasonable about it.

Lol the black cards are the coolest looking. Yeah I think it was left over satanic panic from the 80's.

Amusingly, if they had endorsed my nerdy side I probably would have never got into drugs like I ended up doing during my teen years.

Yeah, my Dad actively discouraged me from reading scifi and playing magic. In my late teens they started accusing me of doing drugs, which pissed sober me off and led me to drinking and doing drugs......

I think I started when I was 10 or 11? I learned to play around when 4th edition came out. I spent a large portion of my chore money on magic cards for several years, then stopped for a while but kept a few decks around for fun. I picked it up in college later and the new sets weren't my cup of tea, so I didn't stick with it much longer.

I first learned how to play when I was 12 years old, during Urza's Saga. I played casually the next 6 years and then gave away most of my cards when I graduated highschool because I didn't really have anyone to play with. I picked it back up a few years later and continued to play with some small groups of friends until 2011. Around that time, a new card shop opened up in town and I started playing tournaments. By 2014 realized tournament play was a waste of my time and money because I am an adult that can't put all my effort into playing cards. Family and job are more important than cracking packs and flooping the pig. I still play with some friends once in a while, but I haven't bought cards in 4 years and I honestly can't stand the latest sets and new mechanics.

Maybe I am getting old.

I have a board game of it that some one bought me in 1997 but I never played it.

my twenties but I knew of it way before that. I also never really played much I really just collected cards because I liked the art and it was cool to spend a couple bucks on a pack and fing a 10$ or 20$ card in it.

Back in 94-95. I don't play regularly, but about a year ago my son and I went through a spell where we did.

Some of the new cards / mechanics do seem overly tedious.
