Me? I've recently quit smoking on July 1st, after 8 years. Wanted to know who else has something they've overcome recently/previously and want to share.
I think a really bad habit (thats similar to this ) for me, was when I would count EVERYTHING.
I could hear a word like 'tree' and it would be equated to the number 3.
(t = 20th letter in alphabet (2 simplified), R = 18th (9 simplified [8+1]), E = 5th letter, x2 = 10 (1+0=1))
therefore, 2 + 9 + 1 = 3, because 9+any other letter just reverts BACK to the original simplification, so i just ignore it, or i add up the letters that would make 9 (or 18, 27, 36, etc.) together, and simplify it that way.
it fucked me up, but I can do it with ANY word, and i can find mathematical patterns alot easier now. I took the military exam today, and I finished in 15minutes.
I can also do sentences, and some paragraphs.
It's 100% involuntary and I dont know anybody else in my family who does it.
I just really. really. REALLY wish this would end. (Really = 1, try calculating that)
heh, that reminds me of how learning to read more quickly backfired on me. rather than reading each word start to finish and reading it with my internal monologue, i read the first and last letters and notice about how many letters are in between and basically assume what words and phrases are based on that. works great like 95% of the time but when it doesn't, i read all sorts of vulgar or nonsensical stuff and it really throws me off.
my professor taught me something similar when it comes to word counts. I dont know the EXACT lesson he taught, but I recognize a similarity.
anything else? This is really interesting.
haha, taking out the full nail and have sausage fingers? what am i some nutcase? yeah, ripping the white part. its bad for your nail and a bad habit. i used to do it all the time to and probably would while reading your comment lol
