It's a little bit of all of it. We call foxes, phuks, and new users are sometimes called pups or kits, like little foxes. I sometimes say "pucks" in casual conversation.

I have always said "fucks".

"Phoxs" would make sense for "Fox", but "Phuks" doesn't really make sense that way, at least not to me.

If the image of a fox was not supplied, I don't think I would have made the connection. But it is a lovely connection.

I assumed that someone with a slight accent and a good sense of humor chose them name. "Fucks" with a west coast US accent and "fox" with and Irish (and some other) accent would sound pretty much the same to my untrained ear.

But yes, I've been thinking "fucks" until now.

I, honestly, thought it was "Pewks" like Phucket is pronounced Pew-KET...
