I was looking through my server logs, and I noticed that Linux was represented far more than Mac os. That surprised me since I thought Mac still had a larger market share. I googled it and found that it does.
But not on my site.
So it got me thinking. The market share estimates are probably based on all existing computers, and would be slanted by commercial use. If I could find numbers for market share of home systems only, I wonder if it would be different.
Over the last month on my site, the ratio has been 50-5-1 win/linux/mac.
Is it just that users of my site are smarter than average, or is linux starting to pass mac in personal use?
I use Windows 8. Thought about switching to Linux a few times but I have far too much shit that I can't be bothered to sort out, plus it would completely fuck me over in the gaming department. I use a VM to boot different versions of Linux every now and then to do certain things or just to mess around, but it doesn't have enough support for some things to make me get my shit into gear and switch.
It has been years since I have touched a mac. I preferred it to Windows for a short while because it feels a lot nicer to use, but there is too much you can't do on mac. Plus there's the gaming issue. Apple are starting to focus less on less on their computers imo, that's why they aren't used as much anymore. I think they also started to do shit to some of the mac applications for film making/editing and stuff too, which made some people stop using them for work related stuff.
