Had to check it was for SNES, as I didn't play the original release, only re-releases.
Chrono Trigger.
It remains one of the best RPGs ever made, in my estimation. Great graphics, music and sound is truly excellent, interesting "tech" system that lets you combine the skills of different characters for more powerful effects, a battle system where you had to take positioning into account at times, along with an interesting story that forces you to travel to many different time periods in the world to figure out the truth.
I still think it's the best J-RPG I've ever played. And I lovedFinal Fantasy X, but I think in terms of quality CT just barely edges it out. Bonus points for the extra content in later releases, particularly the DS version, which included the cutscenes included in the PS1 port, as well as extra side-quests and a new boss you can fight that gives a different ending to try and tie together Trigger and the sequel, Chrono Cross, a little bit more.
