I think the need for the group mentality died off after WWII. Or at least was well on it way to dying off. We don't need our neighbors anymore. It is rare that we do unless the kids play together. Or you work together.
Self entitlement isn't, at its core, bad. It promotes survival and more than that prosperity. It's the self entitlement for nothing that is a problem. Which is a modern indulgence.
Is indulgence the right word? Yes I think it is. It's the idea that people have so much that they can give it to those who choose not to work. Choose that they don't have to provide for any community yet can still breed. It's the indulgence of the arrogant.
