Surprised you didn't post another Edward Hopper. This was is quite interesting though. It isn't surrealist, but it almost does look like it is a predecessor to some elements of that style. Maybe it is that realism isn't be emphasized here. The reeds and bird look obvious and clear enough to convey what they are without trying to extensively to make the scene appear lifelike and authentic. And the situation of the scene itself doesn't actually seem that real either; when was the last time you walked around in nature and encountered these many creatures all together?
