The benefits would need to be absolutely astounding to compensate for the huge transition costs. Is all of NATO really going to go along with this? Those poor Eastern European countries that already had to switch/still are switching from commiblock rounds.

That's what I'm thinking. The sheer cost of the change is astronomical.

I'm sure they will have a record profits and then probably in 30 years the story will be that the 6.8 doesn't meet all the needs of modern warfare; we need a powerful, long range round and something something for short distances in urban combat. That's how things go.
