Cool, how hard is it? I've never looked into the color case hardening stuff.

It's not so much that it's hard to do but hard to do well. It's a lot of trial and error on how long you heat stuff and getting the right mixture of bone and wood charcoal from what I've read. I'm not going to spend nearly as much as this kit costs. I've priced it out and it's way cheaper buy it individually.

The wood is beauuutiful. I'm not sure how I feel about the metal. A more consistent blue could be cool.

Is that just simple heating the metal with a torch until it starts to change color? Is there more to that? And would it compromise the metal itself? As long as it’s not the barrel or the action parts I guess it wouldn’t matter.

It's a technique that was common before the 20th century. You heat with bone and wood charcoal. Too much and it gets too brittle. The idea is to essentially create a thin outer layer with the process. Stainless steel will easily get that cool effect you're talking about w/ a torch.
