I've never seen the play, unfortunately. There are no plays around me, at least that I know of. I've never even been to theater, although I was part of a production put on by students when I was in 4th grade. :p

I never saw the movie adaptation, but saw a few miniseries. It's completely different if you're watching it in a theater with a real legit pipe organ

I actually like figure skating, so it was actually easy for me to watch; having a known and familiar anime on top of it makes it even cooler.
It's like when I rarely hear a song from a musical I know and like (like Phantom of the Opera), and the entire skate becomes even more interesting to me.
