From 2010-2012 I was the paperboy of the town.

It was technically my parents job, but they delegated so I could get some sweet sweet allowance.

Ask away

Did you have to collect money from idiots who wanted to play stupid little games or were the customers required to pay in advance?

This is the reason I never stuck with it.

I didn't have any issue delivering the damn things. Collecting money......no fun and took a while.

This newspaper was delivered for free which is weird now that I think about it. I can't think of how it would be funded. Just by advertisements? Donations? Tax subsidies? It was just a local one for the area but still. They just give you addresses to deliver to and a highlighted map of the area with your bundle. I've never thought about how it's actually sustained

Sounds like a coupon circular. They're mostly ads, but they might have some advertorial and maybe a crossword puzzle.

What is the weirdest thing you saw during your deliveries?

One of my math professors in college saw an elephant.

Also did you have to get up real early?

This isn't totally obscene but the weirdest thing I saw is the attitudes of the old people. They expect their free paper to go into their mailbox a certain way. If you don't listen they will wait outside their mailbox until you come by to give you a telling off.

IIRC some old lady had an average mailbox like this. She didn't want the paper folded in half to go into the bottom half. She wanted it as a perfect circle in the half round bit. She ended up blocking off the bottom slot with rocks just so you could only put it into the top. That's easily one of the funniest/weirdest stories I have doing it.

Personally no. My parents did sometimes just to tackle the rural areas because you can get away with driving wildly when nobody is around. It makes it easy for swinging around and doing uey's without having to deal with traffic. We were basically covering most of the town + a bit out of it from Friday afternoon to Monday morning. It's not a lot of money but you do meet some good people and it's better than being a shut-in over the weekends.

uey

There really is no good way to write that word, is there?

That old lady was probably really lonely so that's why she was obsessed with it, didn't have any power besides that. I feel bad for her.

Did you get blown about and soggy when it rained?

I did but I still had to wear a rainjacket and do it anyway
