All losses were because of wildlife which tends to sometimes include my butch ass aunt. No bad intentions though lots of deaths this year for our litters. Had to yell at a few smaller wolves while shovelling at 5 am because they started sizing me up. Two 3 legged bears in a year? trappers aren't getting the job done one of the bear went through the god damn house siding for a meal. A 9 foot long timberwolf pelt? yep. that exists. Apparently they sound like horses when they run down the paved road. and my god do I have some stories... thought this was the best way to share what might be interesting since you can ask whatever picks your interest.

edit... I forgot to include: MERRY BELATED CHRISTMAS!!!!! lol and HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! since that isn't past tense yet lol

I've been close to that area, Smokey Falls. I worked in some northish Ontario towns for a while. Thunder Bay and Sudbury etc.
We've got grizzlies, bear bells/sticks are used by many, and are a good idea. I never did, but I made a point of not sneaking up on them. They are mostly not dangerous if you are aware. They generally will only become aggressive if they are surprised, or have young around.
That said, we never went into the deep woods unarmed, even as children.

I figured you were in a different area because the wolves in the west don't usually get as big as you described.

O.o I see. Yeah I was surprised at the size... I thought that they'd be 100-120 pounds or so because they're wild and wild things aren't always fed very well but they are absolutely massive wolves. Good to hear you've got a gun that's important in the North, can't trust anything especially after dark.

I don't have a gun anymore, gave them to my father when I settled in the city. I deal with a different kind of wildlife now. :)
I've been thinking about renewing my licence and picking up a pistol. I have very little experience with pistols, but range-shooting could be fun, and I haven't fired anything in a few years.
Bolt action hunting rifles, and an Enfield WWII repeater are what I'm experienced with.

yeah I'm a city slicker too... used to get shit about it from the family til they realized I was doing ok in Toronto. I like Springfield shotties... I find pistols to be insanely dangerous because most people can't handle responsibility well. make sure you buy one with a safety and use it often so you respect it a lot... I prefer the riffling side of guns myself
