It was the only option, really. I don't like the implications it has on the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact, but the Court wading into how the states handle their Electors would be worse.

Yeah I really don't like the NPVIC and how a group of states just simply want to supersede the entire electoral college on their own. If that sort of popular vote system does end up taking over, then I frankly think there would end up needing to be some sort of federal mandates on voter registration for federal elections, since state registration is somewhat illogical for federal elections once an individual vote in Wyoming means the same as an individual vote in California.
