They hibernate in winter. They go to a place that feels safe from frost and seal their shells.
I wonder why the crows haven't found this hole yet, when even a human can find it.

That makes sense. I thought maybe they lay their eggs in there. Surprisingly I haven't seen any crows ever messing with it. It's only a few inches off of the ground. Perhaps there's just easier food sources elsewhere nearby.

earlier in the spring I would see multiple snails in there. Now its just a single big one lately.
I think they may have been eating moss or algea that grew over the winter. But I ain't no snail biologist.
