I wonder if and when the idiom "nothing to write home about" 's origins become ambiguous and its usage obsolete.

Technically, you could e-contact your folks at home instantly now, so you can give them trivial updates/news/etc very easily. It's not as time consuming, exciting, or expensive as sending a written letter way long ago.
