I was going back and forth between grow bags and containers. Not sure what I want. I have a key lime that I want to put in a good pot, suggestions?

The biggest cheapest plastic pot you can get from a garden center.

I'm hoping you mean decorative plastic pot. Grower pots actually tend to not be ideal for long term use. They have thinner sides and larger drainage holes. I wouldn't use one for more than a couple years. That said, old grower pots are great for using when transplanting if you can't put the plant in its new home immediately. They also come in handy for holding vegetable garden harvests.

OP: I'd put the lime tree in a nice decorative pot but if you are having to overwinter it somewhere make sure you'll be able to move the pot. I've been growing a Meyers lemon in a concrete pot, that's about the same size as a squat 10 gallon grower pot, for the last 4 years. I'll probably do some root pruning and change out the dirt this year.

A thriving citrus will outgrow any pot, I had to plant out the lime I had potted up, it was going to get too big unless I pruned it brutally so I set it free.

Assuming it's a new young tree, I'd only replant it one pot size up for now. So if it's currently in an 8 inch, then put it in a 10 inch for now while it's still young. Once it gets more established then you can move up more. That's what i'm doing with my meyer lemon right now and it's growing great

I read online that the original shiny plastic pot is very bad for trees. So I transplanted it to a large pot for now.

BUT here is the clitch, I ordered an air-pot five gallons. and that I would like to put in permanently. Would it do some transplant shock damage?
