This hits the nail on the head. I could never get into Infinite. Everything was just too hollow...no crafting, shitty weapon upgrade system, constant un-meaningful combat, extreme disconnects between "story" and "combat"...the whole "here's a vibrant story-rich region with hundreds of civilians! oops you went inside and came back out, now it's no civvies and just 20 people and 4 sentry guns trying to kill you".
I must admit, I was very upset when Irrational Games suddenly shut down after Infinite was released, but it kind of makes sense. Another BioShock game made with this direction would have been an absolute flop.
