I haven't really played Call of Duty for a while. The last ones I played online were 4 and 5, and I played the campaign on MW2 and the first Black Ops. Over the past few months or so, I've slowly been working my way through the ones I missed. They are basically the same as the others, just not as good. It seems like they focus less and less on the campaigns and way more on the online stuff, which I'm not really interested in anymore.

So I was pretty surprised when I started playing Black Ops 2 and realised they had an almost non-linear part of the campaign. The first indication that something was different became apparent when one of the missions felt sort of open world-ish, but it still had the standard "shoot this thing, run here, trigger sets off new event, shoot this thing, run over here, trigger sets off new event" deal going on.

Then something completely bizarre happened. I was actually given a choice of missions to choose from, something I've never seen before. The missions are actually RTS missions too, which was fucking weird, but I was happy that something different was happening.

They are quite possibly the worst missions I have ever played in an FPS game before. The control system is awful, kind of like they completely forgot about how we have standard controls for games, and just decided to assign functions to random buttons. I am no stranger to RTS games. I'm not Korean-level good at RTS, but I am pretty good at RTS. These missions are fucking. impossible. I lowered the difficulty and still can not come close to completing a single one of them. How they even got into the finished game is beyond me. Maybe they had Koreans testing the levels, who knows.

The RTS missions are optional, so I just carried on with the main campaign. The next level I played was plagued by horrendous bugs. A Russian guy was trapped in midair about 50 feet above me but was somehow able to kill me with his AK47. After I got through that mission, I moved onto the next one. Halfway through, I got into cover behind a cart full of watermelons, and noticed that there was a watermelon a couple of feet in front of me just spinning in midair. I watched in disbelief as it slowly shrunk and disappeared from existence, as though it had had enough of the game and just decided to phase itself out of the universe it was trapped in.

How do people buy these shitty games for full price every single year when they are this bad?

I dunno, I don't understand the proclivity of "I need it now" some people have. I mean, I bought For Honor recently for full price, but I had played the open beta, so knew what I was getting into (still enjoying it thus far, although I don't play that much at all; kind of regret it as a full-price purchase just because of time considerations). I really just never heard of Black Ops 2 being buggy or whatever, although I don't really pay attention either. It's a good problem to have, I suppose - we have disposable income and really want entertainment! There are worse things, like living in fucking Liberia or something, where you're lucky if you don't have to resort to cannibalism to survive.

I think I went off on a tangent there. People buy shitty games because fuck if I know.

Huh. I never experienced bug issues when I played through the BO2 story.

How do people buy these shitty games for full price every single year when they are this bad?

I like COD. I made a lot of good memories playing with my friends. I mainly play it for its multiplayer and zombies mode since the campaign generally doesn't interest me. They generally don't make good campaigns, though the latest installment, COD IW has a fun campaign, IMO.

I liked 1,2 and 3. 4 and 5 both had brilliant campaigns, and are still the best multiplayer they've ever done.

How did you get through the strikeforce missions? I was playing on veteran and lowered it to hardened but I still can't get anywhere near beating a single one of them. If you're controlling a unit, you can't put other units where they all need to be, and if you're putting units where they need to be, they all die because the AI is completely inept.

Why would you play the strike missions on veteran?

I can't think of any reason for that. Are you trophy hunting? Cause beating them on veteran is not necessary for the platinum.

The AI is shit. You will need a strategy. You can look up some walkthroughts but I wouldn't recommend playing them on veteran.

Pass them on a easier difficulty for the minor alt story outcome.

I suppose I just like to beat games on the hardest difficulty.

This shit is ridiculous though. Enemy AI is killing every one of my units and literally just waiting there until I spawn again to kill me.

I have not played a single COD game since I got into Battlefield BC2 way back when. The whole Battlefield series is far and away superior to COD in every way.

People play COD for the fast paced online action. To me it's just annoying. Very little stategy or teamwork involved.

It depends on how you play it. CoD 5 might actually be the most fun I've ever had in a multiplayer game, but only because I always had 10 people who were down to play at all times. Ground War was the shit. 9 players on each team, sometimes on maps that were really only big enough for 5 a side.

Search and Destroy was great too, basically Counterstrike but in a CoD game mode. Half the time I didn't even play public multiplayer, just private matches with friends. There was a game that people used to play in private matches, though I don't remember what it was called anymore. One player was "it", and could only use a knife to kill the other players, like a slasher movie. If you got knifed, you either died permanently, or you could play a version where you joined the knifing team. It basically led to a big game of hide and seek, and we even broke the physics of the game to reach areas where we couldn't be knifed.

Playing on your own in public multiplayer is awful, but if you had a team of 6-9 friends then it turned into a completely different experience. It made it a lot easier too, you can completely crush the other team if you're all talking and working together.
