It has other uses too. You can turn off item sharing and randomise the position of upgrades on the map. People use it for races and it can be pretty fun to watch because you need to take a gamble by visiting certain locations and hoping you get what you need to progress.

im not sure why you would need or want a teammate on super metroid but always a fan of grassroots upgrades to classics
