1984 is one of my favorite novels of all time, if not my actual favorite. Obviously it was written for a political message, but the world itself is well-constructed and seems to hold up to scrutiny. I also enjoy Winston's position as an outer party member, which puts him in the middle of the power structure that the party has established. It's an appropriate place for him to be, really.
