I don't browse phuks at work solely because of the name. I don't want someone to potentially think I'm looking at a porn site or something since my internet activity is logged.

I have no idea if my activity is logged. If it is, they either don't care or are ignoring, because I've clicked on enough tits are work to get fired by now (I click off double-quick, and try to avoid them in general, but sometimes you hit a link not knowing what to expect).

We have a message on the OS login screens that say "have no expectation of privacy on this machine", so I just don't risk it.

Do we want people who are offended by a simple ass word that sounds like fuck? I do not... If people are offended by that, imagine all the other drama and bullshit that offends them.

That's how I looked at it, at first.
But a couple potential users that I saw turned away by the name, were good ones.

I don't think it is because they find it offensive, I think some see it as silly or immature.

This mirrors my own thinking regarding the name too.

It reminds me of when you're, like, 11, and you want to be an edgelord and use bad words, but not actually get in trouble for using bad words, so you make up your own new word that's spelled different.

I do understand the desire to create a name that sounds like a thing (Reddit, Voat), but those are basically neutral words that don't carry connotations with them; at least not negative ones. Phuks does, as the spelling and sound of it makes you immediately go to a expletive in your mind, which just doesn't carry a good vibe with me.

My point and feelings still stand. If you can't look past a simple pun and even enjoy it a little because your "adulting" duties are too far up your ass, please stay on rEddit and voat. Do we REALLY want people who find offense or find it immature in the word Phuks, here? I'm not saying don't change the name if the community here wants that. I am saying don't change it so snowflakes are less offended and more opt to make this a home.

Oh I didn't mean because it sounds like fuck. I meant using it in sentences feels awkward, because of the trailing s or the ph I think.

I kind of do to, but I think at this point they're sort of locked in. I dont know the process for naming a site so I could be wrong.

I don't think it would be set.

It could be a pain to get every instance changed, but that's what find/replace is for :)
And a simple change that didn't involve abandoning the mascot, might not be too bad.

Phoks? Phox?

I don't mind the name, but it can be a bit of a hard sell to new users.

It's a real hard sell. The people I invited declined because of the name.

Love the Fox. Not a fan of the Phuks.

I wonder if we could put it up for a vote? I think the mascot is awesome, and having a name that fit it still would be pretty nice to.

Maybe counterculture has no appeal anymore but if it does, "phuks" is an appropriate label for a counterculture forum. It might be a good way to weed out those who are uncomfortable being different.

I think it's the spelling that makes Phuks feel awkward to use. I get that the ph is to distance the word from fuck and I like the similarity in sound to fox. I think the ph is what makes it feel awkward to use in a sentence, possibly the trailing s.

It was a play on "give a phuk," I just pronounce it as "pucks" when around normies
