How have you guys been spreading the word about this site?

I would love to see this become just as popular as reddit or voat sooner than later (though without all the vitriol that voat is known for), and I think if we work as a community we could definitely make that a reality. What are your thoughts?

EDIT: Thank you guys for your input!

Originally it was a project not intended to be advertised. Before Phuks, there was shitposting.space, and before that, there was Throat. I would say about 10-15 people were aware of shitposting.space and made an account there.

When Phuks went up, invites were sent to a few people on Voat, and a couple of posts were made here and there on Reddit, and that was it. The reasoning behind it is we didn't want to openly advertise on Voat, and attract their users, for obvious reasons. Everyone invited was told not to post about the site anywhere, even on Reddit, as even a small influx could have fucked the site up. At the moment, the site could scale quickly enough to deal with an influx, but it is still not finished. The alt layout needs a lot of work and the backend needs to be redone.

In short, we haven't been spreading the word about the site, but for good reason. This will obviously have to change at some point in the near future, not just to make it more active, but so it pays for itself. Not sure how we're going to go about that yet though.

That makes total sense, and I will respect that. Thank you for the insight. When it's ready for an influx, I'm sure there will be ways to get the word out.

This place is a paradise right now, similar to Voat before certain influxes occurred.

If we start mass advertising this place to normals, it will turn into Voattit overnight. I don't want that to happen.

IMO, the best way to keep the community intact while also growing it, is to invite people slowly and individually, and it will eventually be ready to handle influxes.

I agree, I want to be part of a new community, not just move other communities to us.

First rule of Fight Club is: "You do not talk about Fight Club."

Second rule of Fight Club is: "You do not talk about Fight Club."

But read PMYA's response for the serious answer.

Yeah, what pmya said, were basically hammering out some features before it gets too big. No sense for having to pay a lot each month to debug and work stuff out.

(note: We're self funded by a few donations at the moment. We're not selling user data or embedding any ads/trackers and don't have plans too any time soon.)

If you wanna tell a few people you know, no worries, but we're not really ready to advertise big scale yet.

I'd love to donate when I have a few extra bucks! Do you guys accept bitcoin? I always feel weird asking that >.>

yup, Donate link in the footer.

We have plans for a paypal/store thingy coming soon, I just have to finish some tax/bankaccount stuff.
