It's a good idea to always use FSF-certified wood. Lots of tropical wood is illegally harvested.
BTW, you can buy and much Ipe as you want :-) It's Janka is 3684, it has a class 1A fire rating (the same as concrete), and it's available almost all over the US. It's beautiful.
