So just had a close friend with me out here, I realized that for some reason the people I have associated with don't care about anything, but how they can suck resources off those around them.

This guy....so deal was that I pay for hotels, food, and 500 a wk to him....he would in turn fill out DoT forms, and basic checks like lights, and tires. Plus he was to prep the next truck like pull out the liner in the bucket, or apply needed decals.

Immediately he was falling asleep, playing games on his phone, finding every single way to annoy me...always demanding I get the jab, that I stop smoking...this or that.

Then breaking or losing equipment. "Forgetting" aspects that he agreed to, or giving excuses as to why he wasn't able to perform those tasks.

I confronted him and he just had this blank stare....then said....you are boring and this is boring...I said then leave!

Suddenly he wasn't bored....I said no you made you intent as well as desire towards this very clear...1024 a wk in expenses just for fuel and hotel....not including the food.

Plus 500 a week?

Minimum effort guarantees minimum wage....this to you doesn't matter as none of this shit is yours....nor is it your career.

In the past 6m and all the people I have tried to give a job, it is the same with them....no one wants to expend the effort to make themselves better.

I get that my ethic can't be theirs, and I accept that, but just leach to get a check? Bitch about how 8hrs is such a chore?

How do you think I can afford to keep you here and me make a profit?

I am just about to give up....seriously I want to help someone....I do, but I am realizing that no one wants help...they just want someone else to take care of them.

We recently hired this dude to do customer service, and he ends up getting 5 or 6 complaints about his attitude in 4 weeks. The guy has called off 4 times in the last 2 months for "mental health breaks" and shows up on average 10 minutes late every day, a few times he has been a couple hours late. I would have sacked him by now, but we are real desperate for just any warm body to fill positions. I haven't seen a single person apply in months, and we are offering $13 to $16 an hour depending on experience.

So I moved this dude to a position that doesn't deal with customers and isn't dependent on him being on time. On Friday he has the balls to come asking for a raise and bitching about getting better hours. I tell him that if he showed up more often, and on time, and had a reasonable amount of work ethic, I would consider it. Mother fucker puts in his 2 weeks today and said he will find some place that doesn't treat him like shit.

Dude can't even show up on time and wants more money to be late.

You are totally right, people want it all and they want to do nothing for it.

We had a guy that acted similarly except instead of customer complaints it was fellow crew members. He was awful at weedeating so we stuck him on the big mower crew where all he had to do was ride a zero turn and cut the grass. Within two weeks his crew leader was complaining that the guy was going off and sitting on his phone and skipping areas. Then the guy starts asking about a raise and if we would pay for him to go to school for horticulture. I told him he had to make it through a full season and show some initiative at work before that would even be considered. So instead of taking the hint, his work ethic got even worse. Started calling out because he needed to take his grandmother places, making up reasons he had to leave early, etc. We pulled him back off mowing crew after he got into it with his crew leader (warm body on a mower doing occasional work was better than no one on the second mower) and started using him as an extra person to fill in when people were out for legitimate reasons. That's when he doubled down on his efforts to get paid but not work. First he claimed he had a positive test for Covid so he could get 10 days off with pay. Then he comes back to work and wouldn't you know it he "accidentally" smashed his finger while lowering a trailer gate. Sure enough he starts asking about workers comp because he "can't operate anything other than a blower" because of his finger. Owner of the company finally had enough of the guy's bullshit so we sent him to an urgent care for xrays which came back negative for any fractures or breaks. He walks back in the office after the xrays and tells our owner that his finger had a hairline fracture. Owner looked at the discharge paperwork, found no such diagnosis sent the guy home for the rest of the week, then called the urgent care and was told there wasn't a fracture. We finally fired the guy the following Monday when he came back to work. We documented everything that was going on so he won't be getting unemployment because he was fired for trying to fake a worker's comp case.

I got a call today from a former employee, who knows the guy and referred him to us, asking if the guy quit or was fired. Former employee was mad that the guy pulled all the shit he did and said the guy was constantly running his mouth that he had gotten a promotion and was the best worker we had. I told the former employee that the guy needed to grow up and develop an actual work ethic.

That is just disheartening.

I want to say it will get better, but as of late I don't belive it will. Workforce has it in their heads of this "livable wage" and "minimum wage for boomers was enough to buy a house and live a good life on"

Well guess what? It ain't anymore! Stop focusing on what was, and begin with what is or can be....simple as that!

Demanding 25hr for non skilled? The fuck you smoking? How will that ripple out to others that do make that? Fuck them because you don't care so long as you get yours?

Better yourself.. it isnt difficult to become marketable so long as you just find something you enjoy that gives you satisfaction. I know that sounds boomer-ish, but it really isn't.

My first job at 15 was at sonic...making 3.75 which was minimum wage. My dad told me on my first day.

If you are flipping burgers, or mopping up shit from the bathroom, you be better than anyone else and do it with enthusiasm.

Anyone can clean a toilet, but there isn't many out there going to do it with a smile, work towards a goal, and always set one.

Every fucking day you set a goal and write it down. Sure enough after 2 years of working and picking up shifts I was a goddamn shift manager at 17yo.

Had someone call off that was car hop...I jumped on it because tips, and I would share with my staff. Even though it wasn't required.

Now days....that same store is just a shell of warm bodies that are just there for a check. Another day another dollar.

This whole anti work movement will do nothing but consolidate the job markets to the major players....

I am only 42 years old, but I remember mom and pop restaurants, appliance stores, and just everything else. Now it isnt anything but corporate America or Amazon.

It will end up biting these people who support this movement in the ass. Well not them, but certainly their kids.

Amazon is making their own towns around locations in remote areas.....to lure workers, it is only a fucking matter of time before these people work to live.

This guy I spoke of in the post....he said that he should get half of what I do.....for fucking what exactly?

Being present in physical form?

Right now I am in centraila Illinois and you know what is here on the main strip? 17 bars...9 slot machine places, and 4 privately owned restaurants that are probably in debt to their eye balls.

That is within a 1/2 mile from me right now!

It gets worse closer you get to Chicago and these fucking people don't care....I hope you can weather this......

I'm 35 and I have seen my small town grow into a small city invaded by corporations and tourism. The majority of the factories and independent business have closed down and as a replacement we have resorts and corporate restaurants.

When you bring up the tourism destroying the town, the locals say "but that's the driving force in our local economy!" So we exchanged manufacturing and small businesses for corporate fast food and seasonal work?

As all the corps move in and drive away what made this town special, the tourists are eventually going to leave because this place no longer stands out as something different from the big cities. And with manufacturing gone, the locals have no real way to make a livable wage and will eventually leave.

Even small town America is falling for this corporatism and I fear the future isn't all that bright for us.

Haven't been over here in ages and thought I'd give it a look. You're always popping up in random places. Glad to see you're still hard at your job and hope the family and doggy are doing well. I was going to post some tunes but I guess I'll have to build up some points.

Anyway, just thought I'd say Hey.

I came here because honestly this place is Switzerland in the free speech platforms, seems poal and xyz wanna fight, while goatpen is just a nightmare ui to me.

These guys are always the same...welcoming and that will never change. There isn't much content really, but the chat room in element is good.

Lots of people from around the world, and to me its better that way. Here in USA I can't seem to find decent people to just befriend.

Edit

Holy fuck its you! I know you now.

I am glad to see you are still kicking....when I come back home me and you are going to the range! Period old man.
