It's because you suck and they're not telling you.

Friend of mine does programming work. Well, not really. He sucks. Badly. As in "he's been doing this for years and still has to ask me questions about basic first semester things that you'd learn in college." And he keeps asking those questions. He'll understand it for something like 2 months and then it's just gone. Out of his head. Like it tripped over some brain cell and fell out of his ear.

And he has the nerve to to complain to me that recruiters suck.

That's okay. I got him into an intern position at work. He gets paid peanuts to do tasks that involve a single line of code but takes him like 2 days to figure it out.

He figures it out though. Usually. I did warn my bosses who interview him: He's slow, doesn't always get every thing, but he doesn't give up.

So they throw him at the knowledgebase, the helpdesk, and a little code here and there.

It works for him. It works for us. He's only making something like $10 an hour though. But he's doing it. Gotta give him credit for not giving up.

Jesus fuck did you just hire my brother?

He used to be my boss a couple of jobs ago. Now he indirectly reports to me as a point of contact, directly reports to the head of the department officially.

Had an old colleague loudly complain that "NOBODY is hiring dude!" a while back and I was like yeah sure dude whatever. If you work in the fastest growing and most in-demand field on Earth and you can't find work, it's you.

I kind of tried to tell him this. I would sit him down for about 3-4 hours once every week and tutor him, teach him things. Pretty sure it didn't do any real good.
