Sometimes I'll look through comment chains on slightly older threads and see posts where someone obviously up-phuked and replied, but never got a vote back. I like to give those people an up-phuk, not to be nice and make them feel like they made a good comment or anything, but to think the person they replied to gave them that up-phuk if they ever check their comment score. Note I do not vote on the parent comment so it ends up often being 1 on both parent and child comments then.

Does this make me a bad person?

I'll do that occasionally too... just one example of voting based on others' votes.

Edit: Perhaps the motivation is different from you, I'm not so concerned about where people might think the upvote came from.

But you might be misled that the user you replied to might be in your side

I don't know, it varies a lot based on conversation. You can be upvoting one another while clearly being on opposing sides. Perhaps the take-home message is don't assume things you don't know.

This is why the internet grew from its initial stages. Everyone has their opinion to post to the newsgroup, no one ever attacked an opinion. You'd love to find discord and animosity towards your long thought out statement because you'd get one back against what you thought was right.

Except now it's just "I fukked ur mom last night", which might be true, but still not informative.

Haha, I've always assumed a single up was from the person I was replying to. Now I'll never know!

That's very nice of you.

Also, I think trolls do this with downvotes to make people argue. On other websites that is.
