Because he didn't want to run it anymore. That or he got bankrolled by some large organization. The place turned nazi pretty shortly after. I miss diversity of opinion.

On a somewhat related note, if you want to support Phuks, spare a CPU core or two for some XMR mining from time to time.

Also, I agree that he either got bankrolled, didn't want to run it anymore, or got a new job with a stipulation to shut the site down.

Where was the money coming from to keep Voat going? And how much did it cost every month? Wasn't it at least a few thousand a month? I don't think Putt ever answered those questions which is fishy. I would have donated.

I think they made some change to the code to reduce server costs, don't know how effective it was though.
