The most obvious benefit being able to slaggin' see through the damn thing, instead of having all your vision blocked, you also get the benefit of your Legions being more able to spot infiltrating rebel forces.

A bonus psychological benefit is that it becomes much harder to actually deal harm or even kill someone if you have to look them in the eye while you do. Especially since your enemies are presumably "good guys" who think they're above things like killing ordinary men who are just trying to do a job and get by in the universe.

Plexiglas is too weak though, I'd go with transparent aluminum.
