It's fucking disgusting living in a country where you can't even keep your doors shut anymore, but not lock them, without someone trying to do something to you.

Time to get crafty and start setting booby traps around your place. Eventually they'll be too scared to even come around.

Sorry for your shitty event - my family and I have had a couple of cars stolen in the past and it's not a good feeling.

The police get fuck-all funding, and there's no police here at night to watch the place, which means it's a criminal candy store.

Especially in low population areas, I don't think it's practical to have the police watch everything - that's a lot of police. I'm not keen on a tech-based surveillance state either. Somehow in the past people were more honest - if NZ wants to move back to that I think societal causes of crime need to be addressed, rather than emulating the US, with steadily worsening inequality and private prisons.

Genuinely hope everything turns out OK.
