If God is real, and a force of good, the planet will likely be cured of the human disease soon.
That is why I take comfort in nihilism.

Let's be honest about ourselves. We're parasites that will destroy the host unless culled or eliminated.
We exist only for our own benefit, and to the detriment of all other forms of life.

Yes, I am a cheerful and optimistic person.

Maybe we are a disease, and our activity is killing and mutilating the natural environment.

Or, maybe we are humans, and we're just trying to survive in a hostile environment by changing it to better suit us.

I guess maybe that's just a matter of perspective, but ask yourself, which one is sentient? The humans, or the rocks and dust flying around in space? Which one will experience suffering if it 'loses'?

Earth is only worth preserving because we live on it as of now. Sentient life is what's important.

Earth is only worth preserving because we live on it as of now.

You don't find that idea to be a bit arrogant as a species? We're not the only sentient life on the plant.
But we are a danger to all sentient life (including ourselves).

And just so your not misunderstanding, I am not saying I think we should be removed. I would like to see us prosper.
But if you look at things from a galactic or divine point of view, we're not important. We only have value to ourselves. To most other life we're just parasites, and a danger. Objectively speaking we give nothing of value, and serve no purpose.

I am serious when I say that I take comfort in nihilism. It means that we are not some failed project by a divine power. It means that we can have a purpose, and don't need to stay parasitic. We get to decide what it means to be human. Once we can finally shrug off all the fairy tails and accept that, we can then choose not to be parasites.

But as long as most of use believe that human life is all that matters, or that a magic man in the sky has willed things to be as they are, then we will continue to be a disease.
