I remember as a kid opossums would always get caught in our trash cans, if you shined a flashlight on them they'd freeze. We would have to tip over our own trash cans and wait for them to unfreeze and waddle out. Of course the area has since got built up a ton so they've been gone from the area for 2 decades.
My ex wife's granny, born and raised in Bumfuck WV, swore that possum gravy was delicious, better than squirrel or rabbit
