Here is a better angle at what's going down. It's actually the boom operator that guides it like a mini plane. The receiving aircraft just sits there still and matches the refueling aircraft the best possible. Unless it's the type that the receiving aircraft must "spear" a dangling boom. All in all it's super standard and the only thing that can usually go wrong is sprayed fuel or a fuel door not closing correctly.

Mid-air refueling just conceptually blows my mind (at 3:00 in the video). It just seems like so many things could go so so so wrong.
