Our political situation has recently become a lot more polarised, but I still think we have a common ground and level of co-operation in government even now that is not necessarily present in the US at the moment.
It is not uncommon for politicians to rip each other to shreds over policy, but compromise still exists and so does mutual respect.
The same, to a lesser extent can be said of the US.
I would assume it's mostly the extremes that you hear across the pond. The media also seems set to a significantly higher volume in America.
I don't disagree that you're not as far down the path, but you are traveling in the same direction, and it is only a difference in degree.
