But there's a lack of decent hosting sites, and none that have a comparably sized audience or the same level of functionality.
Unfortunately the average Youtube viewer is not going to leave the platform, not even if a few creators do. It is too well integrated with their devices and lifestyle.

It almost reminds me of the antitrust case against Microsoft in the 90's for bundling IE in their platforms. Google is essentially doing the same with android devices and other native platforms.

I wish more people would go to daily motion or vimeo or other sites I haven't even heard of.
