I'm not even sure it's conscious in most cases. It's more like you have this core set of values that you believe in, and you want to advance it and have the nation adopt it. Dealing with contradictions between what you believe, what reality shows, what others argue, and what you argue is really difficult. It's not an easy thing to do. So to have an easier time with it, you (likely sub-consciously) exhibit things like confirmation bias, group up with other with similar ideas and fall into some form of groupthink, and so on.

I think so to, Currently things only get fueled more and more by social media, message boards, reddit/voat and such. Forming perfect little echochambers where the discussions aren't about issues anymore, just about confirming your existing beliefs and pointing fingers to the other side.

This goes for both sides in the US (fed by the dual party stranglehold) and isn't just a left or right thing. (just look at all the SJW and BLM bullshit the last few years) I think it's a very dangerous development as public servants seem to be much less accountable for their actions/statements and facts these days.

They aren't complaining, they're taking these events as an opportunity to piggyback on them for their own gain. Just pointing out that there are complete double standards when it comes to this, on both sides.
